Overview
Michelle is a highly regarded patent attorney with over a decade of experience advising Australian and international clients on patent and design protection, intellectual property (IP) strategy, and portfolio management. She is known for navigating complex, cross-disciplinary inventions by combining technical insight with commercial acumen, delivering internationally-aligned protection and enforcement strategies that maximise the value of her clients’ innovations.
With a unique background in biomedicine and biomedical engineering, Michelle specialises in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the medical technology sector, including surgical systems, implantable devices, medical instruments, diagnostic devices, laboratory equipment, and healthcare software solutions. She is passionate about translating cutting-edge research into real-world healthcare improvements. Michelle’s expertise also spans mechanical and electrical engineering, including electronics, control systems, sensor technologies, ICT, and software.
Before entering the legal profession, Michelle was a student researcher at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and the Bionics Institute, and later worked as a biomedical engineer at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne. Her early work involved advanced molecular biology techniques, machine learning for medical applications, and the design and evaluation of medical devices.
Michelle holds a Bachelor of Biomedicine, a Master of Engineering (Biomedical), and a Master of Intellectual Property Law from the University of Melbourne. She is a Trans-Tasman Registered Patent Attorney and an Australian Registered Trade Marks Attorney.
in 2025, Michelle was accepted as a Fellow Member of The Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia.
Her dedication to excellence has been recognised with the IP Rising Star award by the Managing Intellectual Property IP Stars Awards for three consecutive years (2020–2022).
