Overview
Having joined Spruson & Ferguson in 2017, Brendan Mezzapica is an experienced and trusted Patent Attorney in our Engineering and ICT Team. Brendan utilises his extensive knowledge of local and international patent law to expertly assist clients with patent drafting, filing strategies, prosecution, validity and infringement (freedom to operate) opinions and patent oppositions.
From startups to established multinational corporations, Brendan delivers tailored and commercially minded advice to each of his clients, supporting them in their business objectives through the strategic management of their intellectual property portfolio.
Whilst specialising in the fields of mining and medical devices, Brendan enjoys a diverse practice of mechanical engineering and healthcare disciplines. Prior to joining Spruson & Ferguson, Brendan gained industrial experience at a medical technology company, where he was tasked with designing a non-invasive intracranial pressure monitoring device.
Brendan is the author of several publications on intellectual property including an article on the topic of ‘Prior Art’ featured in the Australian Intellectual Property Law Bulletin published by LexisNexis Australia.
Brendan is a Fellow of The Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia (IPTA), and a Member of The Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ).
